1 of 1 – How cool is that. This is it, there are no others. So, what is this thing? Werner Pohlert was a music teacher who had a ‘corporate in’ at Hofner. He wanted an exclusive instruments for his academy’s students and the marriage with Hofner was created. If you google Pohlert Hofner there is a lot of research that was published and out of respect to that research, we will not quote it here due to professional courtesy, plagiarism, and copyright protection. Along with that research and my Hofner gurus, we bring you this bass. Please keep in mind my magazine credentials and expertise.

It is reported that the Pohlert Hofners, well they only made 7, 9 or 13 according to research. It is mentioned they only made 1 bass. Some have reported they accounted for a bass but it was never seen. Well here it is, 1 of 1. The red herring. This is it, 1 of 1.

Pohlert Hofners have certain exclusive features in the dark cherry (cola) burst finish, headstock inlays, combinations of hardware, etc. This Senator model is no doubt a 1964 issue due to the small surround staple pole pickup. The controls are Tone/Volume/Jack. Every part on this bass is original to the bass.

3 minor repairs – 1) The pickup was expertly rewound at Bluesman Vintage in Nashville performed December 2021, 2) the pick guard is missing but a standard Senator guard will work and 3) The neck, neckset, rod etc are fine. These have a slightly odd pitch and the action is the low side of medium. Very playable  and sounds great.

If you look up the other found and remaining Pohlert’s, many if not most of them have been restored and heavily restored at that. These are so historic they deserved to be. Most Pohlert’s remain in Europe. This variant led an easy life in California where quite frankly, this is under the bed clean and original.

Exclusivity, quality, and rarity. Here it is.   These instruments came with either poor quality soft cases or shower curtain gigbags. They disintegrated 50 years ago. We have this in a period hard case that could be Hofner, Guild, or another premium brand. Again, we took this out of our secret stash.
