First Act Garage Master Limited Edition Volkswagen Electric Guitar - White Pickguard (Pre-Owned)

2006 Volkswagen First Act "Garage Master" guitar. Rare white with white pickguard; excellent/near mint condition with original "Garage Master" box and original, heavy duty VW gig bag from a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta.

The "Garage Master" is a solid body guitar, double cutaway in poplar with a satin finished, 22 fret figured maple neck with rosewood fretboard. 25 1/2" scale. Electronics: Volume control, tone control, 9-volt amp-modeling circuit, master volume control, distortion/clean switch, high boost/cut switch, preamp on/off switch, three-way pickup selector toggle switch.

In the Fall of 2006, Volkswagen of America kicked off an end of the year, 3-month long, holiday promotional campaign, celebrated with a tongue-in-cheek "heavy metal" theme, to introduce the 2007 model line up. At the heart of the promotion, the company included specially designed First Act "Garage Master" guitars with actual corresponding automobile VIN plates on the headstock, for every specific car VW customized with a 1/4" jack, something that enabled the car's stereo system to be used as an amplifier. An accompanying 2006 ad campaign featured bozo guitarists Slash, John Mayer, and Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap doing just that.

First Act is probably best known for selling beginner 222 Brand guitars thru Wal-Mart. Essentially a school band instrument marketing company involved with selling musical toys through Target and other stores, First Act actually includes a coterie of pretty good guitar builders making custom instruments in Massachusetts. No surprise then that these "Garage Master" models are well crafted instruments using pretty high quality woods. A glance at any YouTube video demonstration of the guitars is proof of this and the comments are great. They had fun designing this guitar I'm sure.

This particular guitar, probably made in mid 2006, was originally paired with a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta which we matched thru the VIN plate on the headstock.

Anyway, here's a killer gift for any heavy metal-loving VW collector or Germanic gear head.

The VW Garage Master promotional gimmick was an instant failure and the guitars remained pretty obscure for about another dozen years or so, until they seemingly flooded onto the market, new, boxed and untouched, around 2021
