The early production years of the BOSS OC-2, from approximately 1982 to 1984, are considered unique by some collectors and players. The "Black Label" designation refers to the black label on the back of the pedal, which was used on early Boss pedals made in Japan.
-
Controls: The
1983 OC-2is an analog octave pedal with three control knobs for mixing the tones:
Direct Level,Octave 1 Level(one octave below), andOctave 2 Level(two octaves below). - Analog sound: It is highly regarded for its distinctive, warm, and vintage synth-like analog octave sound.
- Tracking: The pedal tracks single notes best, with tracking sometimes becoming less precise on chords or faster passages, which is part of its vintage charm.
- "Octaver" name: Unlike later versions which were labeled "Octave," early pedals from 1982–1984 were labeled "Octaver".
- ACA adapter: The early Japanese-made pedals from this era were designed for the ACA power adapter, which provided 12V DC. They can be used with a modern 9V DC adapter, but may require a simple modification or a daisy-chained power supply to work properly.
